Barr Trail starts out in Manitou Springs, is 13.32 miles long, and has an elevation gain of 7,815 vertical feet to the summit (about a mile and a half). Many think that the descent is easier than the ascent, but ask our Scouts and the adult leaders who went with them, and I think that they will tell you that the descent is what they felt that day, and the next, and the day after that. When going downhill your legs turn into shock absorbers, and you either have to have good shoes to absorb it or your legs will. Another lesson learned, especially by those who had to tend to blisters, is to have your shoes on tight. But I am sure we are looking forward to doing it again next year!
